My Co. is trying to get into compliance with I-9 regulations. Any suggestions on how to do self audit?
I’m in the HR field. We got training, and I’m trying to set up procedures while auditing our own files. I’m stumped as to best way to demonstrate changes, (keeping notes). Also, what’s the best way to get changes from current employees without running the risk of not getting I-9 back if sent to other location. I appreciate input…
I would send out a memo mandating that every employee resubmit all of the original documents they first used to obtain employment… must be an original/ certified document no copies allowed… plus i would require to see the original ss card of each employee since that is now and IRS requirement.
Improper I-9’s carry a $5,500.00 to $11,000.00 fine for each one improperly filed.
