FCC Compliance for Foreign Products?
Hi, I’m from Argentina and I’m trying to sell one of the electronic products my company manufactures. It would be through eBay. I have passed every regulation in my country, but I’d like to know the steps I should follow to sell it in the States according to the rules of the FCC.
I plan to charge people through PayPal and send my product in a box through Fedex along with the bill from my company. Is anything else required?
Thanks for helping a foreigner
I mention Paypal and fedex to emmphazise I’m not doing a formal export of 200 units per month on a container, but maybe sending 10 units per month through courier, so I can’t afford to contract someone in the states for the paperwork.
I wish I could say that I was familiar with the radiated and conducted emissions requirements in Argentina, but I’m not. I’ve only seen the IRAM / S-Mark testing for safety. If Argentina does not require EMI testing for electronic products, you’ll need to locate a test lab there that can perform the necessary testing and have those tests performed first.
If you have the specs for either CE or FCC testing, you’ll know the limits for Class A and Class B emissions. *IF* your testing under Argentinian rules has conformed to either the European or U.S. EMI test procedures, and if you have successfully kept your radiated and conducted emissions under the U.S. limit, then you will be allowed (with adequate documentation to back up your claim) to self-certify. You will need to place a declaration of conformity in your manuals, signed by someone in authority in your company.
To keep things simple, I recommend including a copy of your D.O.C. in your shipping paperwork so that your equipment isn’t so likely to get hung up in U.S. customs inside FedEx.
